Network Ready

Optizone Enterprise and DioRad ophthalmic software products are network ready depending on the license that you have purchased. You can set up a local area network (LAN) or a wide area network (WAN) or use a combination of both. Below are instructions for computer set up for your optical store or chain. The use of an IT network professional is highly recommended.

Small Store & Office Hardware Requirements - The first example is a guide for small offices with a LAN. A local area network consists of computers connected together at one location sharing data files, printers and hardware resources. A LAN will require a Ethernet distribution hub to patch client computers in. The computers can be networked peer to peer with a WORKGROUP or TCP/IP protocols for small offices.  We highly recommend that you purchase a server grade computer for your other "client" computers to connect to. A server will come with redundant hard drives to assure that your data is protected in the event of a hardware failure. A regular computer can be used as a server, but you could run the risk of hardware failure and losing data. The cost of a server has come down drastically and easily affordable.

One Store - Local Area Network (LAN) Four Station Peer to Peer
Make one computer the "server". It must run at all times. Network sharing can be set up on the "C" drive of the serving computer.

A separate program EZ - Client must be installed on the client computers, so that the proper control libraries can connect with Optizone Enterprise.

On the client computers desktop, create a shortcut to the optie.exe on the main server Optizone Enterprise.

Standard Printers - can be used in a variety of formats. Tractor style work well for single and multiple label printing. Laser and bubble jet printers work well for volume reports and invoicing. The printer(s) can be connected to the parallel port or USB on one computer and be shared by all computers on the LAN. Barcode scanners - are easily connected using a key board wedge. Simple connect the scanner between your keyboard and computer

Invoice Printers - use 8.5 " by 11" paper sheets to print.

Job Orders - you can use half sheets if you desire.

** Note - Optizone Enterprise and DioRad will operate on Mac computers with a Windows Emulation program.

Wide Area Networking (WAN) - Large Chain or Franchise with Multiple Geographic Locations Interconnected
You will need to acquire a "server" grade computer with a high speed internet connection. It must run at all times. Network sharing can be set up on the separate drive of the serving computer. Computer file security is very important.

Use a router to connect and create a hardware security firewall.

The Internet service provider will need to give you a static IP address that does not change so that the other computers can be connected.

You will need to install Windows Server on the the server computer. You will have buy CALS (client access licenses) for each of the computers that will be connecting to the server.

Hiring an IT professional in your area will best suit your needs for service and system set-up. The IT professional will be able to advise you what equipment will be required as well.
